Question 1

Are other state candidates eligible to apply for State PSC exams?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in most states, candidates from other states can apply under the General (Unreserved) category. However, reservations (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Women) are generally reserved for local domiciled candidates. Additionally, certain states require passing a regional language proficiency test or qualifying intermediate examination with the state language.

Question 2

What is the upper age limit for State PSC exams?

Accepted Answer

The upper age limit is significantly more generous than UPSC. Many states permit candidates up to 38, 40, 42, or even 44 years of age (e.g. Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Bengal), with additional 5-year relaxations for reserved communities.

Question 3

What is the difference between Group 1 and Group 2 services?

Accepted Answer

Group 1 comprises Class-1 and Gazetted administrative leadership posts like Deputy Collector, DSP, and Commercial Tax Officer with high authority and promotion avenues into IAS and IPS cadres. Group 2 includes executive and non-executive supervisory officers such as Sub-Registrars, Assistant Commercial Tax Officers, and Section Officers.

Question 4

How is the State PSC syllabus different from the UPSC syllabus?

Accepted Answer

While national subjects like History, Polity, Economy, Geography, and Current Affairs remain identical, State PSC exams mandate in-depth knowledge of state history, geography, regional culture, local economy, and state government schemes (often carrying 30% to 50% weightage in Mains).

Question 5

Is interview round required for all State PSC posts?

Accepted Answer

Per central government recommendations adopted by most state commissions, interviews have been eliminated for Non-Gazetted Group 2, Group 3, and Group 4 posts. Selection is strictly determined by written merit. Group 1 and judicial posts retain the Viva-Voce / Personality Test.

Question 6

Accepted Answer
